In January 2024, a deeply prayerful man named Nikolaos climbed the steep and remote mountains to meet and receive the blessing of two beloved and venerable ascetic elders, as he was soon to be ordained a Deacon. When he arrived at the hermitage, he saw the two elders praying on their knees, and a noble figure dressed in royal garments standing nearby.
After a few minutes, one of the elders lifted his head and said, seemingly out of nowhere, to Nikolaos: “We both give you our blessing to now receive the rank of Deacon and to serve our sweetest and all-good Jesus with fear of God! You have our blessing!”
The soon-to-be Deacon Nikolaos bowed deeply, reverently kissed their hands, and turned to leave silently, discreetly, and with ascetic stillness. Then he heard the “visitor” say to him: “You have my blessing too! I am King Vatatzes!”
