General Ioannis Makrygiannis also saw the Holy King John in a vision on December 20, 1849. The deeply devout General Makrygiannis recorded in detail, in his own manuscripts, the appearances, miracles, and revelations of the Lord, the Theotokos, and the Saints (book: Visions and Miracles).
I will now present several selected passages from General Makrygiannis’ manuscripts concerning the Holy King: “Then God says to me: ‘Do not weep, Giannis, nor for all that you plead for. I will resurrect your homeland and your faith, and humanity in general, in their appointed time, Giannis. The hour has not yet been designated. And you will see, all those who go against My will. Both your own people and others, I will free you from the accursed ones and will give you the great crown (Constantinople)…’ Then, giving me something from His garment and His covering, He said (God): ‘You are the forerunner of the commission I will establish when the time comes, and I have secured your life and your soul.’”
On another page, General Makrygiannis writes: “Then a cloud descended, and our Master, as they were all shadows in the judgment, and we went to Hagia Sophia. And there He blessed the elder who was at His right, and there was a formation, I cannot describe it to you. Our Master blessed him, and all the others, and said: ‘This one is the president of the commission of My kingdom.’ And I awoke. These I saw, brothers, and whoever loves may believe; otherwise, he is master of his own house and may do as he wishes!”
In another passage, Ioannis Makrygiannis recounts: “On Sunday at dawn, our Master (the Father), Christ, the Theotokos, and all the saints came, with all that radiance of light, and very joyfully He says to me 3 times: ‘Giannis, Giannis, Giannis, now, I think, you have seen Me with your own eyes and have enjoyed Me and know Me. You have secured all that you plead for night and day concerning your homeland, your faith, and humanity in general. I have heard you through the intercession of My Only‑Begotten and His Mother and My saints. The earth and the sea may shake, but not My words. You saw My steward (Saint John Vatatzes); I have resurrected you behind him. When the appointed hour comes, you will enjoy all these things, and the great crown.’”
The “Holy” General Makrygiannis further emphasizes: “One dawn I made my prayer and was deeply immersed in the icons, and I was cold, exhausted, and in pain. I open the door and see in the hall a man with a beard, like a monk (Saint John the King). I greet him and say: ‘Elder, come inside the room, for I cannot stand here, it is near the end of December, the 20th (1849), and it is very cold.’”
He comes inside and kneels before me. I say to him: “This is a burdensome act.” I took him near me. He says: “I bring you wishes and blessings from our Master, for you and all your company.”
I say to him: “Who is the Master? And I have no company. The One above and He knows both you and your company. What worthiness do I have for what you tell me! Rise, let us go inside, to the icons.”
We went there, and I said 3 times: “Lord, Lord, Lord, this man came into my house and tells me words for which I am unworthy. And if he is true, let Your omnipotence and Your kingdom bless him; but if he is deceitful, let him become ashes outside my house!”
Then he also swore and wept. I made 3 prostrations, and he did the same. I went to kiss his hand, but he did not give it to me; he told me he was not an elder… He told me that foul nations will come against the homeland and the faith, that you must be careful and have great unity among yourselves, and when you see anything, when this ends, you must move with whoever you can.
Then the “Holy” General, now face‑to‑face with Saint John the King in the form of a monk, writes: “Explain yourself more broadly. Who are you and how did you come?”
He says: “I was at the Holy Sepulchre for quite some time, and one night I saw the Pantokrator and all His kingdom and my name is Giannis.” He says to me: “Giannis, Giannis, Giannis, you are the steward of My kingdom, and as you conduct yourself, do not change even a hair; you are lost both here and in the next life.”
I saw this 3 nights in my sleep…
On Saint Constantine’s day, in 1844, they took him and went to Constantinople, and in Hagia Sophia they ordained him. He sees all these things in his sleep. After some time passed, they tell him to be found in Constantinople. He went there and they placed the crown on him, and He says to him: “You are the president of the commission of My kingdom when My appointed hour comes.” And He told him to have justice, and many other commands…
Then they take him not in sleep, alive and bring him to all the churches to repair them, and to all the mosques, and they told him, when the time comes for him to steward, they told him which mosque should become which church.
He says to them: “When is it?”
“Do not ask about the time, for wherever I command you, be ready without examining.”
And the “Holy” General continues his narration and his conversation with Saint John the King: “Our Master told me to come here for you, first, not to be sorrowful, and when His hour comes, you will be the standard‑bearer, and many will follow you, and the Cross in front. And when that hour comes, you will first see that this Sabbatian will perish from the wrath of our Master, for he has shed and continues to shed so much innocent blood and then you will be enlightened again.
And when you move, be just and united on the road, and many hidden holy bodies will come forth, and then, as you also come, I will enter the commission of our Master. And now, with the foul nations that will attack you and try to destroy you, unity among yourselves, so that you do not perish and innocent blood is not spilled, for our Master does not want that.
This He told me and tells me, and He is before us, whatever He tells me, I tell you.
We sat for about 5 hours. I say to him: “Teacher, will you not stay here tonight?’
‘I cannot, my child,’ he says, ‘for I am pressed. I will go down to Piraeus, and from there He told me to go to Hydra. What I will do and where else I will go, I do not know.’
His age was about 65 to 70. Not of strong build, of medium height, and always joyful, a very sweet man.
And he left and said to me: “God willing, we will meet where our Master will bless.”
