The blessed Father Ananias Koustenis regularly “spoke” with Saint King John, as he himself told his spiritual children, even recounting such otherworldly incidents and real events that he personally experienced from time to time. I have personally heard several such accounts and stories concerning the holy elder Ananias Koustenis and his deeply beloved Saint King John the Merciful. On one occasion just to give an example a university professor and spiritual child of Father Ananias waited patiently for quite some time to meet the Elder, who was conversing with someone inside the sanctuary. Out of respect and courtesy, the professor didn’t want to interrupt. When he finally entered the sanctuary, he saw no one. “But Elder,” he asked, “you were speaking with someone all this time where did he go?” And the Elder, smiling as always, replied simply: “I was speaking with Saint King John Vatatzes!”
