Elder Modestots of Mount Athos
Elder Modestos of Mount Athos has spoken for nearly half a century about the coming of Saint King John. When we asked him, the elder replied: “Saint King John told me I will not fall asleep before I meet him in the Holy City!”
And when asked what he would say upon meeting King John, the elder replied: “I have waited so many years for you, Holy King. I have spoken of you for so long!”
And he wept… Elder Modestos was born in 1930 and lived as a monk for 27 years in the Holy Skete of Saint Anna on Mount Athos. For the past 40 years, he has served as a missionary in the world, throughout Greece, following the guidance of the enlightened Athonite hermit Gregory.
In recent decades, he has become a “hallmark” presence inside and outside the Church of Saint Demetrios in Thessaloniki, benefiting many souls, because what is truly missing today is exactly what he offers: a missionary presence within the modern, confused, and troubled world of our homeland. Elder Modestos often says that he once asked a hermit (an Athonite monk): “When we reclaim the City, will Bartholomew be Patriarch?”
And the hermit replied: “No. It will be someone else…”
He proclaims: “America Babylon will suffer great destruction! The glory of Greece is coming! We will have three empires: that of Alexander the Great, Byzantium (Romios), and that of Saint King John! The one that is coming!”
